In this course, we will study theoretical and computational modeling approaches applicable to soft and biological matter. The course comprises a brief review of relevant fields and in-depth case studies of individual systems. The content of the course is closely aligned with currently active research topics, ensuring students understand and apply rigorous treatment to model soft and biological matter for scientific research.
We will start with basic concepts of continuum mechanics, thermodynamics, and statistical mechanics relevant to the modeling of soft and biological matter. In-depth case studies explore various individual systems, with an emphasis on biological systems, including topics such as:
- Biopolymers
- Network-based materials
- Membranes and vesicles
- Single cell and cell clusters
