Today we mine data: tomorrow we will sculpt it *

Cultural Data Sculpting is at the intersection of two dynamic phenomena, the ever-expanding heterogeneous digital archives, in conjunction with their experiences in immersive, interactive display systems. This course will engage novel approaches - with computational challenges - to innovate applications for visualizing and interacting with these cultural heritage archives.

Students will be introduced to the history of immersive strategies for cultural data and contemporary techniques for mass audiences, and will have access to existing digital cultural archives, each offering lines of enquiry from archival reuse to big cultural heritage to 3D modelling to historic stereographic pairs. Students will work together in small teams to analyze and gain a deep understanding of their chosen archive. They will design an interactive and immersive installation on one of the eM+ systems to navigate the archive and implement small prototypes presenting specific aspects of the project.

Please see our main notion page for more info on the course.
