Hey !

In the homework 9 exercice 3 second question, I don't get why are we allowed to get rid of the left psy when applying the schwarz inequality on the right side of the inequality as shown on the screen bellow ?

We dont get rid of it: there are two Psi's on teh left and two Psi's on the right.

The right way to look at the inequality is to realize that on the left you have a scalar product of the two vectors enetering in the norms on the right.

I still can't wrap my head around how you visualize that on the left we have a scalar product that goes into the norm with the right one ?

Can you enlighten me about that ?

Take the two vectors that are inside the norms on the right.
So you have two vectors or two kets.
Do the inner product of these two kets. One ket becomes a bra. And you write the bracket of the bra and ket.
You should then recognise the left hand side.
