Dear CS-308 students,

Our first lecture is next Wednesday, February 18th. The class usually runs 9h-13h but exceptionally the first lecture will start at 10h15. It will take place in room AAC 231, as usual. (Though check the course page for any updates to the room.)

Due to an unfortunate scheduling conflict I will not be present for the first lecture. Instead, the two TAs for the course, Petia and Itammar, will give an introduction to quantum computing and to the course.

A large chunk of the lecture will then be devoted to a review of concepts from linear algebra, and notation for them used in quantum computing (the infamous "Dirac bra-ket"). I highly encourage you to come, and stay for the exercise session (an exercise sheet will be posted on Moodle the day before); as linear algebra is often the biggest technical hurdle to mastering quantum algorithms!

I will be back on February 25th and see you for class at 9h15 on that day.

Thomas
