Hello, during the quiz, I asked about surface forms and think I may have confused them with canonical forms in the question below. Could you explain the difference between the two?

surface form is the word itself. canonical form is a conventional "normalized" form. For instance with the word "cats" : "cats" is the surface form and "cat" is the usual canonical form.
