Midterm and Problem Sets

Dear all,

Just a few quick announcements and reminders.

- If you submit the problem sets via email, please email all three of us (the professor, and both TAs). This saves us from a lot of email forwarding between ourselves and minimises the chances of your submission getting lost. Also, a gentle reminder also that the problem sets are due at 5pm on Wednesdays.

- If you would like to see your midterm, I no longer have them. Please contact TA Marco to arrange this. You can take your midterm with you provided you have no questions on the grading. If you think that we made a mistake in the grading, please discuss it with Marco. (If necessary, he will loop me in too).

- For those unfamiliar with EPFL/Swiss system: Your final average will be based on the average of three grades as specified on Moodle. The final grade will be calculated according to the standard Swiss system grading (archived grade/max grad * 5 +1) and possibly adjusted for the difficulty of the exams. We usually adjust it a bit in your favour, and do our best to avoid adjusting in the other direction. Thus, the grade of 60% in the course is enough to pass. Usually the passing threshold is between 50% and 60%. (As a consequence, all of you did well enough that you could still pass the course. But, those of you in the 20s on the midterm should aim to do better on the final).

Best Regards,

Prof. Yana
