This applied, industry facing course, will examine the need for decarbonization of engineered products and reduction of their wider environmental and societal impacts, and the importance of circular economy approaches. Life cycle analysis (LCA) will be presented as a tool to quantify the impacts of engineered products through their life cycle. LCA will be used to aid design of lower impact product alternatives. Cost modelling tools will also be presented to consider financial implications. Group projects focused on industrial case studies will develop decarbonization strategies for engineered products versus time towards NetZero with specific initiatives quantified using LCA software. Stakeholder engagement and NetPositive frameworks will be presented with the need to re-wire supply chains. Guest lectures will be incorporated according to availabilities.
