The three cases when receiveing status message

Hello,

In the Homework pdf it is stated that, when peer R acks our transmition of a rumor by sendind its status, there are three cases. Can we consider those to be mutually exclusive?

If for example we are missing some rumors that R has, can we assume then that R isn't missing any rumor that we have? Hope my question makes sense. Thanks in advance!

Hello,

Thank you for the question.
Unfortunately your assumption does not hold, it can be the case where A has some missing messages that B has and vise versa.
Hope it is clear now.
