HW #2 - Part 3: Rebuttal

Completion requirements
Due: Tuesday, 15 October 2024, 23:59

Objective:

To refine and develop critical thinking and argumentative skills, you will write a rebuttal in response to the feedback received from your peers on your initial write-up. This will mirror the process academic researchers often engage in when they receive feedback on their paper submissions.

Instructions:

  1. Review the Feedback: Start by reading the feedback from your peers.
  2. Write a Rebuttal (400 words +/- 100): Respond to each reviewer, dividing the rebuttal into three sections (first section, first reviewer and so on). For each reviewer, summarize the key points made by the reviewer and then respond with either:
    • Agreement & Action: If you agree with the feedback, explain why and outline how you might improve or clarify your initial write-up in light of this feedback.
    • Disagreement & Justification: If you disagree with the feedback, provide an argument as to why. Use evidence from the readings, classroom discussions, or other relevant sources.
  3. Identify the Troll review: Submit on Moodle your guess of the troll review.
Notes:

  • Maintain RESPECT: It's essential to approach the rebuttal with an open mind. While it's okay to disagree with feedback, it's crucial to do so respectfully and constructively.
    • Handling Troll Review: Every so often, feedback might come across as particularly harsh or unconstructive. It's important to discern the constructive elements from such feedback and address them respectfully.
  • References: If you are citing specific points from the readings or other materials to back up your rebuttal, ensure you properly reference these.
  • Sections: Since HotCRP allows for Markdown, you can use it to format your rebuttal. For example, by using headings to delineate each section.
  • Example Rebuttal Guidelines: Attached is a rebuttal guide from IEEE Security & Privacy, a top-tier venue, for your reference only. We encourage you to look at this resource.
Submission Guidelines:

  • Submit your rebuttal on HotCRP by October 15th @ 23:59. Click on your assignment, scroll all the way down and click on "Add Rebuttal response"
  • Submit your troll guess on Moodle by October 15th @ 23:59.
    Your file MUST have exactly three lines
    <YOUR_NAME>
    <YOUR_SCIPER>
    <TROLL_REVIEW_ID>
    and it MUST be named <YOUR_SCIPER>.txt

    So if David S. Pumpkins (SCIPER 483829), who submitted paper #49, thinks that the second review he received for his write-up is the troll review, he will submit a file named 483829.txt that contains:
    David S. Pumpkins
    483829
    #49B
